From May to October the Farmers Market of Bluffton was the talk of the town. Every Thursday afternoon eager attendees strolled through the Oyster Company Park enjoying the fresh produce, delicious food, lively entertainment, and the friendship of this community gathering.

The market is now seeking a dynamic Market Manager (MM) to take the market to a new level. This is a highly visible position, responsible for the planning, preparation, and day-of- market operation. The perfect candidate would possess both a personable and professional manner. The MM will work closely with the Board of Directors in implementing its goals.
           
This is a Part time position. Averaging 20 hours/week. No benefits.  January  through November. $18,000. Work from your home office.

A.        Qualifications

  1. Excellent communication skills; comfortable working with community officials, growers, public
  2. Excellent and proven organizational skills
  3. Reliable; responsible; punctual; capable of multi-tasking
  4. Good  leadership skills with the ability to guide and maintain the stability of the market
  5. Good  decision maker with the ability to make quick, accurate decisions and stand by them

  6. Creative; has the ability to initiate and implement an event or task
  7. Good computer skills; experienced with Microsoft Word, Excel

B.        Responsibilities

Acts as administrator of the market, exercising general supervision over the market and its activities with the goal being to keep the market running smoothly and effectively.

  1. The market has established Rules and Regulations for all participants; therefore, the MM will need to understand these and the effect they have on the operation of the market
  • Communicates market rules and regulations to participants and public
  • Enforces all rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the market; monitors activities within the market; ensures all market happenings comply with stated guidelines; takes disciplinary action when necessary
  • Mediates: settles disputes in the market; deals with complaints; accepts suggestions; works to achieve equitable and fair decisions
  • Serves as quality control person for the market: all products must comply with the food guidelines of the market

  • The market is held weekly. The MM attends and oversees its operation.
  • Handles market fees
  • Assigns spaces to participants
  • Maintains a Market Tent with market and community information, data collection.
  • Recruits, oversees, acknowledges volunteers
  • Responds to consumer inquiries and complaints.
  • Arranges for someone to be responsible for the market during any absences;  gives participants prior notice
  • Maintains a clean and attractive market at all times. Ensures that the market area is properly cleaned up at the end of the day.
  • Develops and prepares emergency plans. Should always be prepared for emergencies. It is advisable to have quick access to a first-aid kit and a fire extinguisher. Knowledge of first aid and CPR is
    beneficial.
  • Acts as communication and information link between all facets of the market development and operation.
  • Keeps participants aware of policies, activities, promotions.
  • Acts as liaison between market and other businesses and organizations.

  • Ensures that all required forms dealing with the operation of the market are properly filled out and filed.
  • Promotes the market, administrates market business operations
  • identifies  media;  establishes positive rapport, and implements a promotions plan.
  • Manages logo design, signage, merchandize
  • Submits press releases on a weekly routine during market season
  • Works closely with web manager supplying information on a timely basis
  • Maintains mail, email, and voice mail
  • Seeks funding though grant writing, sponsor solicitation, other sources
  • Keeps a record of market operations
  • Attends Board Meetings as non-voting member.  Reports to Board.
